Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team! YDC is a federally incorporated non-profit, non-partisan, and youth-led organization comprised of a team of volunteers who are passionate about Canadian foreign policy, diplomacy, and international affairs. Our operations are focused around our core mission of building Canada’s next generation of global leaders, through which we aim to become the official national voice of Canada's future foreign policy.

YDC is a virtual organization; members of our Executive work remotely and communicate virtually through a number of online and digital communication tools, including Slack, Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, Skype, and Gmail.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Staff Accountant will assist with managing YDC’s operating budget, tracking expenses and revenues, creating invoices for sponsor payments, and providing financial reports to share with the rest of the team.

Please note: this is an ongoing volunteer position that will require 2-3 hours per week (occasionally more during busy seasons). Preference will be given to candidates who are based in the Greater Toronto Area.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the organization’s operating budget, and ensuring expenses and revenues are accurately recorded and monitored

  • Analyzing financial records and estimating financial and budget requirements

  • Providing monthly financial reports to the YDC Executive

  • Forecasting projected revenues and expenses for the fiscal year

  • Monitoring book keeping methods and assisting with closing the books at the end of the year

  • Coordinating the creation and implementation of accounting and related procedures

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant with 1+ years’ experience in non-profit organizations

  • Strong knowledge of business, accounting and cost control principles

  • Good understanding of federal financial policies pertaining to non-profit organizations

  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to communicate virtually

  • Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills

  • Ability to analyze and prepare financial reports and accounts

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel and Access

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Passionate about Canadian foreign policy and advancing Canada’s youth voice

World Bank/ International Monetary fund spring meetings this April in Washington DC  

YDC is currently recruiting five young Canadian leaders to attend the 2019 World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. from April 12-14, 2019.

*Please note selected delegates are expected to arrive in advance of the Meetings.

Y7 Summit this June in Paris, France 

YDC is also currently recruiting four young Canadian leaders to attend the 2019 Youth 7 (Y7) Summit to be held in Paris, France, June 10-15, 2019. Selected delegates will negotiate a communiqué of policy recommendations for G7 leaders on behalf of Canadian youth. Under France's G7 Presidency, Y7 2019 will focus on inequality (economic; environmental; technological, and gender)

The delegation will also participate in an international consultation from March to mid-May.
