Macarena advocates the protection of the environment and works for DevAlto technologies, a Canadian company based in Québec city, specializing in the implementation of software solutions for the monitoring and evaluation of international development projects. She completed her master’s program in International Relations at the Hautes Études Internationales of Université Laval, where she was also president of the student association.
As part of her master’s program she interned in the Québec National Assembly’s international relations department where she got first hand knowledge on the behind the scenes of international relations initiatives for the province of Québec.
Recipient of Global Affair’s Emerging Leaders in the Americas scholarship, Macarena was also a member of the International, Humanitarian and Criminal Law clinic of Université Laval, where she got to work hand in hand with Lawyers without borders specifically in the creation of a brief for transitional justice options in Colombia.
Passionate about different languages, cultures and human rights, she has professional experience in Africa, Europe, North and South America. Having joined the Young Diplomat’s of Canada team in 2018 first as Program Coordinator, she is excited to take on the role of Program Director, overseeing the different delegations and ensuring that delegates get the most out of their experience.
