FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, CANADA – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2015
Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to send five of Canada's brightest young leaders to attend the 2015 World Bank - International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Lima, Peru. YDC’s Delegates will bring a Canadian youth perspective to various high-level meetings throughout the week of October 5th to October 11th.
Recruited from a large number of highly qualified applicants under the age of 30, the YDC delegation is diverse and equipped to address critical issues within the realm of both Canadian and global macroeconomic policy.
Coming on the heels of the adoption of the new Sustainable Development Goals in late September, Head Delegate, Jo-Ann Zhou believes, “it will be very interesting to learn about the new strategies that will be implemented at the IMF and World Bank in anticipation of reaching these goals in 2030." Further, she indicates especially looking forward to discussing the World Bank Group's new Gender Equality Strategy.
At the WB-IMF Meetings, global leaders from around the world will come together to discuss the past and future work of their institutions. YDC Delegates will attend numerous seminars alongside official meetings, engaging with civil society, corporate, and governmental actors on the global economy and the many challenges it still faces today. A critical focus of the World Bank Group in the upcoming years is to end extreme poverty by 2030 and to promote shared prosperity.
Having the opportunity to engage with global leaders provides an opportunity for the youth perspective to be shared at some of the highest levels of global governance. Through YDC’s social media channels, delegates will provide exclusive coverage directly from the Annual Meetings.
