Young Diplomats of Canada’s had the pleasure to organize and participate in a Google Hangout advocacy and policy meeting with Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Stephane Dion on Monday, October 24. Program Director Keeton Wilcock and five delegates from YDC’s recent delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (WB-IMF) Annual Meetings were in attendance.
During the conversation, delegates and Minister Dion discussed and debated some of the most important economic and social policy issues on the agenda at the Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C. held from October 3 - 6, 2016. Topics ranges from understanding a Canadian response to populist movements and their potential ramifications in the United Kingdom and United States to defining Canada’s role in the promotion of free and fair international trade.
YDC’s Keeton Wilcock and WB-IMF Head Delegate Cerina Lee led the discussion from the youth side of the table. To Keeton, “it was both a privilege to hear Minister Dion’s thorough, honest, and deeply-considered thoughts on Canada’s role as peacekeeper in 2016, as well as inspiring to receive advice from one of Canada’s most influential voices on the world stage about how we can develop as young professionals in foreign affairs.”
Young Diplomats of Canada looks forward to future opportunities to engage Global Affairs Canada and further elevate the perspectives of young Canadians passionate about Canada’s role in the world.
