Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to announce that Donovan Taplin, a YDC alumnus and 2016 Youth 7 (Y7) delegate, has been invited to join the inaugural group of young Canadian leaders comprising the Prime Minister’s Youth Council. Aiming to leverage the diverse perspectives and skillsets of young Canadians, the Council will directly advise the Prime Minister on a range of issues from climate change to unemployment.

Donovan Taplin indicated that representing the Young Diplomats of Canada at the Y7 Summit in Japan catalyzed his capacity as an effective change agent and helped him develop a competitive application for the Council. He adds: “The stories of my experience with YDC were fundamental to my success in applying to the Prime Minister's Youth Council. As a youth adviser to Prime Minister Trudeau, I hope to embody many of YDC's values: cooperation, collaboration, and continued investment in Canada's greatest renewable resource - it's young people!”

YDC welcomes the emergence of new means for Canadian youth to better engage decision-makers and looks forward to coordinating with Prime Minister’s Youth Council in the years ahead.
