Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) recently announced Olivia Labonté as its new Executive Director. Jaxson Khan, Co-Founder and former Executive Director of YDC has accepted a position with Influitive, a marketing software company, as a Media Strategist and will continue to advise YDC. Khan’s term as Executive Director brought YDC to unprecedented heights in terms of program offerings, domestic events, communications strategy, and a full rebranding of the organization.

Khan remarks “The growth of Young Diplomats of Canada over the last few years has been incredibly powerful. Canada now has a dedicated platform for young people to lead on the global stage, one recognized by our federal government’s diplomatic core and political bodies. YDC also has a strong, authentic brand that young people across the country can relate to and can be proud of. Hence, we draw top candidates to incredibly competitive national programs. Olivia’s dedication and vision gives me tremendous confidence in the continued success of YDC.”

Olivia Labonté moves into the Executive Director role from her role as Program Director, where she served for two years. Olivia also led and participated in many delegations, including the 2014 Y20 Summit in Sydney, Australia and World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings.

“I am honored and humbled to serve as YDC’s third Executive Director especially at a time when the role of young people has never been more critical. This year marks the beginning of the United Nation’s Agenda 2030, a set of global goals that, if fully implemented by 2030, will ensure a better future for all. I look forward to advancing Canada's next generation of global leadership by connecting Canadian youth with international diplomatic opportunities and hands-on advocacy training,” said Labonté.

Labonté also serves as the North American Advisor on UN Habitat’s Youth Advisory Board and as a member of the Standing Committee for the World Urban Campaign, an advocacy platform coordinated by UN-Habitat which is driven by over 100 partners from around the world. She has advised and worked with a number of local and international institutions, including the OECD and the World Bank. In 2014, she was invited to present original unemployment research at the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings.

YDC is a federally incorporated non-profit, non-partisan, and youth-led organization working to build Canada’s next generation of global leaders.
