Press Release: New Partner - CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, CANADA – SEPTEMBER 28, 2016

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to partner with CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation -- a global alliance of civil society organizations working at the local, national, regional and international levels and across sectors. CIVICUS seeks to enable "a global community of active, engaged citizens committed to the creation of a more just and equitable world."

With members in over 150 countries and from its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, the alliance seeks to influence, connect and enable civil society. As a leader in youth engagement, YDC looks forward to contributing to CIVICUS' activities, while strengthening mission to develop the diplomatic leadership and international advocacy experience of young Canadians.

YDC Executive Director, Olivia Labonté welcomes the partnership: "Too often, youth are left out of the political processes that ultimately shape their futures. However, the growing influence of civil society has provided a space for youth in many parts of the world where they can advocate and instil change. Celebrating the many achievements in the realm of civil society and discussing best practices will be critical going forward."
