Technology is transforming our lives and our economies — including the way we trade. As the pace of change continues to increase, this year's World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum will consider what sustainable trade will look like in 2030 and beyond. To ensure the voices of young Canadians are present and engaged, Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to announce that five young Canadian leaders will attend the WTO Public Forum from October 2 - 4, 2018.

After a highly competitive national search, delegates were selected to represent the perspectives and insights of Canadian youth during the 2018 World Trade Organization Public Forum. The delegation will not only represent Canada's youth, but contribute a uniquely informed perspective on topics of global importance.

The YDC 2018 WTO Public Forum delegation:

Inaara Hasmani, Head Delegate
Zachary Biggs, Communications Coordinator
Khalid Khan
Garrett Audet
Audrey-Frédérique Lavoie

Head Delegate Inaara Hasmani believes that “Technology is transforming the way we live and the way we trade. From using the Silk Route as a way to exchange goods in the past to now trading across frontiers with a single touch, technology has and is evolving rapidly. The Canadian Youth make up a great deal in the workforce and so, it is important for this generation to be part of the conversation on how to create an inclusive and sustainable trading system for the 21st century."

Under the main theme of “Trade 2030”, the Public Forum's sub-themes will be sustainable trade, technology-enabled trade, and a more inclusive trading system. Global leaders from around the world and across sectors will come together to discuss the future of trade and how to ensure that it is more inclusive.

Directly engaging global leaders in government and civil society provides an opportunity for the incorporation of youth perspectives within the highest levels of global governance. Through YDC’s social media channels, delegates will provide exclusive coverage directly from the Public Forum.
