Press Release: Young Diplomats of Canada send young Canadian leaders to Beijing and Shanghai to attend the 2016 Youth 20 Summit

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to send five of Canada's brightest young global leaders to attend the 2016 Youth 20 Summit (Y20) in Beijing and Shanghai, China from July 31st- August 6th. YDC’s Ambassadors will represent the voice of Canadian youth and young professionals in important negotiations with international delegates. The summit’s final Communiqué will be delivered to G20 Leaders this fall in Hangzhou, China.

After a highly competitive national application process, we selected 5 leaders from a pool of qualified applicants under the age of 30. YDC’s Y20 delegation will address critical issues facing the G20 from both a Canadian and global perspective, and will publish written and video reports about their exclusive experience.

This year, the Chinese Presidency has announced that  “Innovation and Partnership for an Inclusive World“ will form the core of the Y20 agenda.

Head Delegate, Petros Kusmu, shares "As members of the Canadian delegation, we're enthusiastic to bring the voice of Canadian youth to the Y20 Summit in China and to shape the outcomes of the upcoming G20 Summit with our colleagues. The leaders of the G20 are at a critical juncture where nearly every decision made (or forgone) will impact this generation's youth – be it in addressing climate change or youth unemployment. It is imperative that we bring our voices to the table to create more progressive and inclusive policies that are truly effective. Tomorrow's success will hinge upon the investments we make in our youth today and what better forum than the Y20 to ensure this happens."

YDC’s Y20 Delegation, in collaboration with national youth delegations from across the globe, look forward to developing innovative recommendations that will be presented to the G20 Leaders this September.
