Press Release: YDC send young Canadians to the 2017 Y7 Summit

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to send four of Canada's brightest young global leaders to attend the 2017 Youth 7 Summit (Y7) in Rome, Italy from May 7 - 9, 2017. The Y7 is the official youth-engagement group of the G7 and will bring together youth delegations from each member country. After negotiating on policy with counterparts from other G7 states, the Y7 will culminate in the signing of a communiqué of policy recommendations for G7 leaders from the perspective of the block's youth. This outcome document will be delivered to G7 leaders when they meet in Taormina, Italy later in May.

After a highly competitive application process, we selected four leaders from a pool of candidates under 27 from coast to coast to coast. We're excited that YDC’s Y7 delegation will address critical issues facing the G7 from both a Canadian and global perspective, publishing written and video reports about their experiences as they navigate Italy and represent Canadian youth during the negotiations.

This year, the Italian Presidency has announced that Rethinking Innovation as catalyst for an inclusive, open and sustainable growth will be a top priority of the G7 Summit.

Reflecting on the theme of the Summit, Head Delegate Heather Evans said "I'm looking forward to discussing the role of different aspects of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, and the future of education during the Y7 Summit in Rome. The YDC delegation represents a diverse range of experiences from immigrating to Canada at a young age to being an active voice of Indigenous communities. With backgrounds ranging from entrepreneurship and the technology sector, to international advocacy, negotiations and law - the delegation will provide a range of perspectives related to the field of innovation and how it contributes to economic growth.’’

Young Diplomats of Canada is the Government of Canada’s national nominating partner for Canada’s Y7 2017 Delegation.
