PRESS RELEASE: YDC sends young canadian leaders to Bali to attend the 2018 WB/IMF Annual meetings

Bankers, governments, civil society and the private sector will gather for the World Bank / International Monetary Fund (WB/IMF) Annual Meetings in Bali Nusa Dua, Indonesia to discuss the most important issues facing our global economy.  At the WB/IMF Annual Meetings, global leaders from around the world -- with a special focus on Southeast Asia -- and across sectors will come together to discuss poverty eradication and aid effectiveness by looking for new approaches to tackle big challenges.

To ensure the voices of young Canadians are present and engaged, Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to announce that six young Canadian leaders will attend the WB/IMF Annual Meetings from October 12-14, 2018 in Indonesia, the third largest democracy in the world and one of the globe’s fastest growing economies. Together, the delegation will not only represent Canada's youth, but contribute a uniquely informed perspective on macroeconomic policy, from both a Canadian and international perspective.

YDC Head Delegate Aysha Nesbitt says that “ with “Disruption” as the theme of this years Annual Meetings, we are eager to learn how traditional industries like finance, health, and education are using technology to shape inclusive economies. And, more specifically, how these industries will support future generations in developing the skills they need to excel in a rapidly changing workforce. Using what we learn, our hope is to advocate for policy change that favours the participation and leadership of youth in creating an equitable and sustainable global economy. ”

Directly engaging global leaders in government and civil society provides an opportunity for the incorporation of youth perspectives within the highest levels of global governance. Through YDC’s social media channels, delegates will provide exclusive coverage directly from the Annual Meetings.
