PRESS RELEASE: YDC SENDS YOUNG CANADIAN LEADERS TO WASHINGTON DC TO ATTEND THE 2019 WB/IMF ANNUAL MEETINGS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, CANADA – THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 26 2019

Bankers, governments, civil society and the private sector will gather for the World Bank / International Monetary Fund (WB/IMF) Annual Meetings to discuss the most important issues facing our global economy.  To ensure the voices of young Canadians are present and engaged, Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to announce that six young Canadian leaders will attend the WB/IMF Annual Meetings from October 14-18, 2019 in Washington DC.

At the WB/IMF Annual Meetings, global leaders from around the world and across sectors will come together to discuss poverty eradication and aid effectiveness by looking for new approaches to tackle big challenges. Together, the delegation will not only represent Canada's youth, but contribute a uniquely informed perspective on macroeconomic policy, from both a Canadian and international perspective.

“Our delegation is honoured to attend the 2019 World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings. We have a unique opportunity to represent the perspectives of Canada’s youth when engaging with public and private sector executives, civil society organizations, and academics in an international forum.” said Head Delegate Menad Sekhi. “ We are excited to put our country on the map with contributions to discussions around greater cooperation, innovation, inclusive economic growth, and environmental sustainability. These dialogues will better prepare our national and international communities to seize opportunities and face challenges as they work to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. We look forward to sharing our journey and the knowledge we have gained from these sessions with the YDC community. Follow YDC on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates on our activities leading up to and during the Annual Meetings!”

Directly engaging global leaders in government and civil society provides an opportunity for the incorporation of youth perspectives within the highest levels of global governance. Through YDC’s social media channels, delegates will provide exclusive coverage directly from the Annual Meetings.
