Nicholas Schiavo is a public policy specialist, community organizer and communications enthusiast. Inspired by his travels, Nicholas has spent the past seven years studying diplomacy and engaging in global affairs.
He completed his Honours BA in International Relations at Western University. While at Western, Nicholas developed a keen interest in current national security challenges and the role of globalization in state sovereignty. This interest led him to the Canadian Commission for UNESCO where he helped develop the 2013 Man and the Biosphere Conference and Biosphere Reserve best practices.
Following his academic career, Nicholas was selected as an Ontario Global Edge Fellow to work with a social enterprise in Nairobi, Kenya. After returning home, he joined the Green Party of Canada campaign as part of the fundraising team during the 2015 federal election where he contributed to the party’s highest fundraising year yet. Nicholas has been fortunate to represent Canada internationally on two occasions: in Malta as a youth ambassador at the Commonwealth Youth Forum in November of 2015 and again at IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, DC in October of 2016.
Nicholas works with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Ottawa on behalf of the Minister’s Office responding to federal aquaculture and international marine issues. In his spare time, he volunteers with the Canadian Youth Think Tank and the United Nations Association of Canada. He is also the Partner Coordinator with Founders Canada – a community organization that seeks to support Canada’s emerging start-ups.
Nicholas joined the YDC Executive team as the Program Director in January of 2017.
