Interested in becoming a YDC delegate or joining our executive team? You’re in the right place!

On this page you’ll find details on the recruitment process and important deadlines.

Become a Delegate

Each year, YDC offers several opportunities for youth to represent young Canadians abroad at international meetings and speak to decision-makers on behalf of Canadian youth. Our delegations meet leaders, experts, and activists from around the world, and develop skills that will serve them in Canada and abroad.

Our Recruitment Process for Delegates:

  • Delegate applications are completed through a Google Form. The application consists of three main parts: personal information, open-answer questions specific to the requirements of the delegation, and a recorded personal statement.

    “Open answer” questions

Get ready to make a statement about an important issue on the international agenda, what it is about this issue and summit that is of interest to you, how you intend to make an impact with the team, and why your experience will make you a valuable delegate!

Finally, we ask that you record and share a one-minute personal statement. This statement helps us get a sense of your personality that we can't get from your written application. We're looking for personable applicants who communicate well and are passionate about the themes they’ll be discussing as a delegate. However, the personal statement isn't everything! When recording, try to relax: just be yourself.

By gathering personal information such as age, place of residence and educational background, YDC aims to recruit delegations that represent the broad spectrum of Canadian youth.

Due to the high number of applications, we may decide to review applications in two stages, with only a shortlist of applications being reviewed in full.

  • If your application passes the screening in Step 1, congratulations! Our recruitment team will invite you to a 30-minute interview.

In the interview, we are trying to learn what applicants are hoping to accomplish from their experience, how well they understand the issues, and how they will work with their fellow delegates.

You will know the results of your interview within two weeks. Delegations can range in size anywhere from three to six individuals, depending on the event.
