The Youth 20 Summit (Y20) is the official youth counterpart to the annual G20 Leaders Summit. The Y20 brings together youth delegates and observers from all G20 member countries to develop and negotiate policy positions ahead of the G20 proceedings. The main outcome is a youth communiqué that is presented to the G20 Presidency to ensure that decisions made by ministers and leaders respect the needs and views of young people today. 

As one of our two advocacy delegations, delegates are given hands-on mediation and negotiation training in preparation for the activities. Delegates can expect to come away with a better understanding of intergovernmental affairs, stronger ties to the international community, and a myriad of soft skills that can be applied to future endeavours. 

2024 G20 Youth Summit

The 2024 G20 Youth Summit will be hosted in Brazil. The exact city and dates have not yet been confirmed, although we expect the Summit to take place in summer 2024.

Each year, ahead of the Leaders' Summit, young leaders from each of the G20 states assemble to develop, negotiate, and propose policy recommendations on behalf of young people to present to Heads of State. This process is known as the Y20. The purpose of the Y20 is to ensure that the decisions and agreements made by Ministers and Leaders of the G20 reflect the needs and views of young people today.

The Y20 organizing bodies in Brazil have not yet confirmed negotiation tracks. Once the delegation is finalized, each delegate will be assigned sub-theme negotiating tracks. As an example, the negotiation tracks for the 2023 Y20 were:

2. Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life

3. Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance

4. Peace-building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War

5. Health, Wellbeing and Sports: Agenda for Youth
