Born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Kathleena (Kat) Henricus is a National Scholar and researcher at Western University, located on the lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Attawandaron peoples, where she studies International Relations and Advanced Arts & Humanities (SASAH).
With work experience ranging from Responsible Investment, Canadian Broadcasting, and Public Service, Kathleena is guided by her passion for human rights, addressing the climate crisis, and making education and healthcare universally accessible. Currently, she serves as the Co-Director of Policy for the Young Canadians Roundtable on Healthcare and is focused on expanding children’s rights in Canadian healthcare. She has also completed a fellowship at the Mosaic Institute, an anti-oppression research, education, and policy group, and has recently joined the Ontario Council for International Cooperation and the Canadian Council of Young Feminists. As a first-generation university student, Kathleena is committed to ensuring that the community she is part of has a positive impact, locally and globally.
A previous chair of the Board of Directors at Western’s University Students Council, Kathleena now serves as the sole undergraduate representative on Western's Board of Governors. She joins the YDC team after serving on the Canadian 2024 Y7 delegation and hopes to leverage her experience to platform diverse youth across the country to the global fora YDC has access to.
