2024 Y20 Final Report
Delegation Information
Executive Summary
This report encapsulates the journey and insights of Canada’s Y20 delegation for 2024, reflecting our participation in the Youth 20 (Y20) Summit, the official youth engagement group of the Group of 20 (G20). The Y20 serves as a dynamic forum where young leaders from G20 economies convene annually to discuss, formulate, and negotiate policy recommendations aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing their generation. These recommendations are articulated in a communiqué and presented directly to G20 political leaders, ensuring that the voices of global youth are integrated into broader economic and social policy discussions.
The 2024 Y20 Summit was held from August 10 to 17 in Rio de Janeiro, attracting 145 delegates from G20 member countries. The Y20 stands alongside other civil society engagement groups like Labour 20, Women 20, and Science 20, highlighting diverse perspectives within the G20 summit process. Participation in the Y20 enables young individuals not only to engage in research, advocacy, and stakeholder consultations but also to project their concerns and demands to the world’s most influential decision-makers. This engagement is instrumental in empowering young people to actively contribute to policy development, while fostering skills in diplomacy and policy analysis through rigorous debate and negotiation.
