Yu Cai Tian is Legal Counsel at the Trade Law Bureau, a joint unit of Global Affairs Canada and the Department of Justice, where he represents Canada in international trade and investment disputes under Canada's treaties. Yu Cai also acts as legal advisor in Canada’s free trade agreement negotiations and advises the Government of Canada on compliance with international trade and investment obligations. In addition to his legal experience, Yu Cai worked at the United Nations in the fields of international trade and environment.
Yu Cai’s international experiences have led him to represent youth within the institutional Francophonie and to advocate for better international student mobility. Yu Cai believes in giving back to the community. He serves on the board of directors of several organisations that work to strengthen public education.
Yu Cai holds an LL.B. [Civil Law] and a J.D. [Common Law] from the Université de Montréal, as well as an LL.M. [International Law] summa cum laude from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He is a member of the Barreau du Québec, the Law Society of Ontario and the New York State Bar.
