YDC Sends Young Canadians to the 2021 IMF/WBG Annual Meetings

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is proud to announce the selection of a delegation of six of Canada’s brightest young leaders to attend the 2021 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG). Due to the special circumstances of COVID-19, this year’s Annual Meetings will take place online from October 11-17.

The YDC 2021 IMF and WBG Annual Meetings delegates are as follows:

·   Carter Vance (Head Delegate)

·   Antoine Congost (Communications coordinator)

·   Tiffany Lee

·   Sofia Cuyegkeng

·   Zack Billick

·   Laurent Bélanger

The delegation comprises an incredibly diverse group of young people from Vancouver, Toronto, Gatineau, Montreal, and Paris. Their personal, academic and professional background covers a wide range of areas such as International Relations, Political Economy, Management, Law, Social Work, and Science.

The Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) bring together decision-makers and observers from different sectors such as NGOs, the media, governments, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics “to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness” (WBG statement, 2021)

Following the 2021 Spring Meetings, discussions at the 2021 IMF-WBG Annual Meetings will essentially revolve around helping countries build a green and resilient recovery after COVID-19.

“As YDC delegates to the Annual meetings, we will be responsible for representing the Canadian Youth perspective on these key issues. We will be attending sessions, conducting high level bilateral meetings with key stakeholders, and producing materials reflecting on our participation. As an educational delegation, our main objectives are to engage with the public, especially young Canadians, and inform them about the role and the impact of these international organisations, as well as the way discussions are conducted and decisions are made during these meetings.” - Joint statement by the YDC 2021 IMF and WBG Annual Meetings Delegation
