YDC Sends Young Canadians to Participate to the 2021 WTO Public Forum

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC) is excited to present the selection of a delegation of six young Canadian leaders who will represent their fellow youth at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum 2021. The event, which will take place virtually from September 28 to October 1, is centred on the theme of “Trade beyond COVID-19: Building Resilience.”

The Public Forum is the WTO’s largest annual outreach event and presents a diverse variety of sessions organized by participants from government, civil society, academia, business, and international organizations. This year, the three sub-themes — Enhancing resilience beyond COVID-19; Strengthening the multilateral trading system; and Collective action towards sustainable trade — will allow more than a thousand attendees to discuss some of the global economy’s most pressing issues as the multilateral trading system grapples with the impacts of COVID-19. More information on the WTO Public Forum 2021 can be found here.

The delegates are as follows:

  • Angela Minyi Hou (Head Delegate)

  • Jiya Hai (Communications Coordinator)

  • Lindsay Bain

  • Pierre-Alexandre Carrier

  • Ashton Mathias

  • Oona Palmer

They are a diverse team of young professionals who have experience working at multiple levels of government, for different international organizations, and in various diplomatic settings. Their educational backgrounds are similarly diverse, with research experience and knowledge in areas including international relations and affairs, political science, law, business, and economics. These varied yet interrelated experiences will prove invaluable as they embark on this opportunity.

The delegates’ detailed biographical information can be found here. You can follow their activities before, during, and after the event on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
