Announcing YDC’s 2022 Youth Delegation to the Y20 Summit in Indonesia

We are pleased to announce that Young Diplomats of Canada is sending a Canadian youth delegation to attend the 2022 Y20 Summit in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia.

The Summit will bring together youth delegates from all G20 member countries and observers to negotiate, collaborate, and develop a youth communiqué that will be presented to the G20 Presidency.

The Summit will take place in-person from July 17 to July 24, 2022. The four themes that will be addressed during the conference include: Sustainable and Livable Planet, Diversity and Inclusion, Digital Transformation, and Youth Employment. 

This year’s Y20 delegation is an accomplished group of young Canadians from across the country. Delegates will aim to push for policies that address the thematic questions of this year's Y20 Summit while ensuring that the voices of Canada’s youth are represented on the global stage. 


Meet the Y20 delegates:

Sameer Esmail Head Delegate Digital Transformation Track

Sameer is a Junior Analyst in the Asia-Pacific Branch at Global Affairs Canada where he helps implement Canadian foreign policy. He is in his 4th year of a Dual Bachelor of Arts and Master of Management program at the University of British Columbia where he majors in International Relations. Sameer is from Burnaby, BC on the unceded territory of the Qayqayt, Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Sameer is passionate about diplomacy, international security, human rights, and digital transformations in government and the workforce.


Jodi-Ann Jue Xuan Wang Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator Sustainable and Livable Planet Track

Jodi-Ann is a Climate Policy Analyst at the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment, and received her MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. She is from White Rock, BC, on the unceded territory of the Semiahmoo First Nation and the border territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. Jodi-Ann is passionate about climate resilience-building, inclusive policy-making, and the equitable delivery of climate finance globally.


Brandon Nguyen Communications Coordinator Diversity and Inclusion Track

Brandon is a Junior Associate at Terranomics, a climate and conservation finance consultancy, and is currently pursuing his MSc in Environmental Economics and Climate Change from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is from Toronto, ON, located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples. Brandon is passionate about environmental justice, access to education, and youth involvement in policy-making.


Olivier Xie Cheng Li Engagement Coordinator Youth Employment Track

Olivier is a Policy Analyst at Employment and Social Development Canada, where he focuses on international trade and labour affairs, and received his MPhil in Planning, Growth and Regeneration from the University of Cambridge. He is from Montréal, QC, located on the unceded Indigenous lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka/Mohawk Nation. Olivier is passionate about the intersection of regional development, labour and workforce policy, innovation and international affairs.
