2024 UNHLPF Final Report

Delegation Information

July 8-18, 2024

Malika Yoh (Head Delegate), Sasha Emery (Communications Coordinator), Anna Toderaş (Engagement Coordinator), and Kerry Li (EDI Coordinator) attended the UNHLPF on behalf of Young Diplomats of Canada.

Key Accomplishments

  • Prior to the HLPF, our delegation received training on the SDGs from Emily Kroft, Youth Engagement Officer at the International Institute on Sustainable Development. We learned more about the SDGs, potential shortfalls of the goals, success case studies, policy tools for tracking progress, and tips for taking action on a personal and community level.

  • Held a meeting with Bob Rae, Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations, at the Permanent Mission of Canada and the New President of ECOSOC.

  • Engaged with Kaitlin Chan, Program Coordinator at Food for the Hungry Canada to explore youth perspectives on sustainable development and the SDGs.

  • Discussed barriers to youth involvement in international spaces with Catherine Adam, Head of the Canadian Delegation at HLPF and Mercedes Morin, Director of the SDG Unit.

  • Following our participation at HLPF, our delegation met with Catherine Stewart, Canadian Ambassador for Climate Change. We discussed Canada’s climate priorities, ways the federal government is helping involve youth in the environmental sector, and what Canada is doing to help Northern, Indigenous and remote communities disproportionately facing the devastating impacts of climate change.
