2024 WTO Public Forum Final Report

Elie Kallab (Head Delegate), Émile Cloutier (Delegate), Angelica Kalubiaka (Delegate), Joshua Finkelstein (Delegate) and Sahib Kaur Dhaliwal (Delegate) attended the WTO Public Forum on behalf of Young Diplomats of Canada.

Key Accomplishments

  • Engaged with high-level officers, experts and professors from a variety of fields, like Johanna Hill, Deputy Director-General of the WTO.

  • Met with Nadia Theodore, Head of the Permanent Mission of Canada in Geneva and Permanent Representative to the WTO. We explored Canada’s present and future role within the WTO and discussed strategies for bringing the stories of Canadian entrepreneurs to the forefront.

  • Received valuable insights from Jacqueline Palladini, Deputy Director at the Office of the Chief Economist at Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and Michelle Zilbergerts, Economist at the Office of the Chief Economist at GAC, on the development of the Forum’s session “Indigenous trade: sharing experiences, exploring possibilities” and the challenges surrounding Indigenous trade on a global scale.

  • Discussed supply chain, farmers’ roles in policymaking and food safety with Genevieve Parent, Chairholder of the Legal Research Chair in Food Diversity and Security, and Professor at Université Laval.
