Y20 2021 YDC Delegation Report on Sustainability, Climate Change and Energy

Executive Summary
 

On June 20, 2021, the Canadian Delegation to the Y20 and the Young Diplomats of Canada invited young leaders to participate in a focus group to inform the policy track of Sustainability, Climate Change and Energy. This summary report details the aggregated outcomes and policy solutions of this session.

Participants were concerned with the ability of today's young people to transition smoothly into the incoming green economy, which will require adequate training, skills and education qualifications. Further, the need for carbon and green house gas (GHG) reductions were highlighted as pressing concerns amongst youth. Moreover, youth noted their environment-centric education is neither universal nor inclusive as barriers to climate change mitigation.
